We were delighted to welcome Professor John Love from the University of Exeter to deliver our first Kerridge Lecture of the year. He took us on a wide-ranging and fascinating journey through the nascent field of synthetic biology - how we can use the individual components of complex biological systems to build new biochemical pathways that do not exist in nature. This ability to manipulate life provides a tantalising glimpse into the future, particularly in how we might address climate change. Imagine engineering special bacteria to manufacture the carbon-neutral, biodegradable fuels and plastics we desperately need. Professor Love’s engaging lecture allowed us to reflect on how science can help solve the world's biggest challenges. If you’ve attended this lecture or any of our past lectures, then we’d love to hear your feedback via this link.
