Partnerships

City of London School for Girls is acutely aware of its responsibility to engage with the world outside the school, both as part of the community in London and more broadly in promoting international links. We are thoroughly committed to fostering a concern for, and engagement with, the wider world both through our charity work and through our partnership programme. We want our students to develop a strong sense of social responsibility and an understanding of their role in addressing the needs of others. Family of schools

The City of London Corporation has one maintained primary school, eleven sponsored academies as part of the City of London Academies Trust, and supports four independent schools. They are collectively known as ‘the City of London Family of Schools’ and multiple ventures are organised across this structure.

The Big Sing

As part of the London Handel Festival, over 380 pupils from eight partner schools came together for The Big Sing in collaboration with the London Handel Orchestra. Through regular workshops in singing, literacy, and history, pupils celebrated London’s musical heritage and the joy of community performance.

City SPARC

City SPARC is a pioneering science partnership between CLS and CLSG, connecting year 12 pupils from six schools with PhD mentors to conduct original research. The year-long programme builds practical STEM skills, from experimental design to data analysis, with many participants achieving prestigious CREST Gold accreditation.

LSE Mentorpreneurship

We enjoy an active partnership with the London School of Economics, which each year leads the LSE Mentorpreneurship Programme. This three-and-a-half day scheme is based on the LSE campus, and invites year 9 pupils from CLSG and other partner schools to come together in mixed school teams to design a product which solves a current real-world problem. Attending pupils also have the opportunity to network, learn from, and be mentored by professionals, and leave the programme with a better understanding of how a business and workplace operate.

HerAI Conference

In November 2025 we hosted our first HerAI conference. Year 12 students from CLSG and other partner schools were invited to hear from four trailblazing voices shaping the forefront of artificial intelligence; Joanna Shan from Google DeepMind, Amy Gaeta from the University of Cambridge, Charlotte Wood from Schroders and Laura Bates, best-selling author and founder of the Everyday Sexism Project. Each guest offered a fresh gendered perspective of this ever-evolving field, discussing the ethics, risks, but also incredible potential of AI.

Family of Schools Debating Competitions

Debating is a big part of life at CLSG, and we are delighted that since autumn 2025 we have begun to deliver termly Family of Schools debating competitions. Competitions have either a primary or secondary focus, with pupils coming together in their school teams to develop their knowledge and understanding of formal debating. A particular highlight of each competition is some of our experienced year 11/12 debaters supporting the events by judging the competitions.

Climate Action Conferences with Schroders

We are delighted that each year our partner in industry Schroders, an asset management company, hosts a Sustainability Conference aimed at eco-minded year 12 students from across the Family of Schools. Each conference provides students the opportunity to listen to and connect with industry professionals working within the square mile. The most recent conference, held in March 2026, focused on ‘Climate Innovation in the Food Supply Chain’.

Maths network

Now in its fourth academic year, this maths network enables collaboration between colleagues across the Family of Schools. It enables a focus on pedagogy, curriculum and assessment strategies. It also sparks cross-phase as well as primary and secondary-specific dialogues to take place, facilitating a rich exchange of ideas across a group of schools.

Leadership Networking lunch

Each autumn term, CLSG welcomes year 12 and year 13 pupil leaders from CLS, CLSG, Islington Collegiate Sixth Form, and City of London Academy Shoreditch Park for a Leadership Networking lunch. Attending pupils spend the afternoon networking and sharing their experience of the benefits and challenges of pupil leadership.

Oracy network

We are delighted to be at the forefront of cross-phase, co-chaired professional network groups across the Family of Schools in key areas of oracy and maths.  Groups of key practitioners from across the Family of Schools meet on a termly basis to share best practice and jointly address shared problems for the benefit of pupils across the group.

Aldgate Sports Masterclass

We are thrilled that we now run a yearly sports masterclass with year 5 pupils from The Aldgate School. Each January pupils come to CLSG for a morning carousel of high-energy sessions exploring a range of sports, led by our Sports-Captains. Last year pupils had sessions on fencing, netball, football, and gymnastics.

Higher education support

Our careers department continues to share career development advice and resources across the academy and independent school network supported by the Corporation of London. Our higher education evening and other careers events are open to attendees from across the family of schools and CLSG staff provides bespoke interview support and guidance for pupils aspiring to apply to Oxbridge. They also offer a US universities talk to support students with overseas applications.

Linklaters

Since autumn 2020, CLSG has forged a valued partnership with leading law firm, Linklaters, to provide learning and development opportunities to pupils from across the Family of Schools. We are delighted that each year Linklaters generously hosts both a public speaking workshop for year 6 and year 7 pupils as well as a ‘careers in law’ insight day for year 12s.

Primary summer school

Each summer, we welcome pupils from our partner primary schools for three days of hands-on learning, offering a taste of secondary school life. Pupils take part in a variety of activities in the heart of the City. In summer 2025, pupils experienced a ‘skulls workshop’, handled Roman artefacts at the Guildhall, and met renowned children’s author Josh Lacey.

Reading mentors

Now in its sixth year, the reading mentors programme at City is an established volunteering opportunity for CLSG pupils across the school. In partnership with Galleywall Primary School, pupils from both schools meet weekly for one-to-one sessions, developing confidence on reading skills, comprehension and vocabulary building.

IntoUniversity

At the beginning of each academic year, year 12 students from CLSG and CLS have the opportunity to become a volunteer for our partner charity IntoUniversity. Becoming an academic support volunteer requires students to spend an evening each week tutoring/mentoring pupils at the IntoUniversity centre of their choice. Before becoming a volunteer, students from CLS and CLSG come together for a day of training to prepare them to best support the sessions they will deliver. This partnership provides our students with an incredible leadership opportunity whilst also supporting many students across the centres achieve more academically.

City of London School

We have a strong relationship with our brother school, situated just up the road beside St Paul’s Cathedral. Our students collaborate on joint plays, musical projects, and charity initiatives, as well as forming strong social connections outside school hours.

iGEM

The iGEM Foundation is an independent, non-profit organisation dedicated to the advancement of synthetic biology, education and competition. For the past few years, CLSG has been entering the iGEM competition as a team in partnership with participants from City of London School. This year, a joint team of pupils from CLSG and CLS have worked together on a project to address the issue posed by nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions in the NHS sector. iGEM is a brilliant opportunity for students to engineer creative solutions for problems.

International exchanges

We hope that every student participates in an international visit of some kind during their school career. In addition to MFL exchanges in France, Spain, Germany, and China, we have expanded our curriculum exchanges to include Argentina, Guatemala and Canada, enabling our pupils to develop a wider understanding of the world.

Wren 300

To celebrate the 300th anniversary of Sir Christopher Wren’s birth, Wren 300 enabled 250 children from ten of the City of London Family of Schools to participate in a varied series of workshops. These workshops resulted in learning in various facets, from music and art – which was displayed at Guildhall – to maths and creative writing. The Wren 300 project has provided extraordinary opportunities for pupils to celebrate, understand and collaborate in spaces at the heart of our cultural identity and heritage.

Each spring term we host colleagues in middle leadership positions from the Family of Schools to take part in a bespoke day of Coaching training. Our programme helps to equip school middle leaders with essential skills to lead effectively in complex educational environments.

Kerridge Lectures

The launch of the Kerridge Lecture series has advanced the opportunity to examine cutting-edge biological and medical research. The series is named after alumna Phyllis Margaret Tookey Kerridge, whose work to invent new medical technologies has improved the quality of life for millions worldwide. We have welcomed several high-profile lecturers who have shared their time and expertise with students and staff.

Dragons' Den sustainability event

At the beginning of summer term, we host our annual Dragon’s Den Sustainability event, bringing together year 5 pupils from our partner primary schools. The event is always supported by CLSG year 7 pupils. They each lead a mixed-school team and work together to design and present an innovative eco-friendly product which will tackle key problems surrounding climate change and pollution. After presenting each group receives tailored feedback from our guest judge Christopher Pritchard, Vice President, Strategic Initiatives – Climate Risk and Opportunity at Macquarie Asset Management.

Partnership with Bow School

We welcomed year 7 pupils from Bow School to City, as part of an ongoing partnership between our schools and CLS over the past four years. These students collaborated throughout a pupil-led journalism session, as well as advancing their critical thinking in a biology ‘skulls’ session.

The Forget Me Not Cafe

In 2024, we launched our partnership with The Forget Me Not Cafe, which provides services for people with long-term memory issues. At multiple points in the academic year pupils from City will visit the cafe to give performances.  This year performances included scenes from The Crucible, as well as dances from spring term’s Gym and Dance Display.

International Women's Day: We Are Cityzens event & panel

To celebrate International Women’s Day in spring 2026, our politics department hosted a ‘We Are Cityzens’ event, inviting pupils from City of London Academy Highgate Hill to join CLSG pupils for an afternoon designing their own political campaigns. Afterwards, pupils got to hear from a panel of speakers with different roles in politics, who shared insights about how they got into politics as well as the highlights and challenges of their respective careers.

Green Shoots Tree Songs project

Our new nature songs programme brought together over 120 pupils from three Tower Hamlets state primary schools (Osmani, William Davis and English Martyrs). Joining musical forces with our junior choir, they sang both old and contemporary songs inspired by trees, accompanied by sounds generated by trees themselves through an app.

Leadership day

Leadership Day

In the second half of summer term, we welcome year 12 pupil leaders from across our Family of Schools to City’s annual Leadership Day. Working in mixed-school groups, students work with external leadership coaches, and explore the strengths and impact of different leadership styles. The day culminates in an exciting treasure hunt competition across the City, where students put their newfound leadership insights into practice.
