Welcome

Something we particularly love about City is the vast array of opportunities to further our knowledge outside of the curriculum. Also, the teaching is absolutely phenomenal and the extra support on offer allows all students to thrive and reach their full potential. Whether it’s sitting by the lakeside, or relaxing with a cup of tea in the common room, City really can feel like a home away from home.

Wellbeing

At City, we focus intently on enabling students to flourish: to enjoy positive emotions and develop positive relationships, experience engagement with the many aspects of their burgeoning lives, find meaning in what they do and celebrate their and others’ accomplishments. City is a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment and, above all, we want our students to be happy and thrive under our care. We provide extensive support in the form of our tutorial system, coaching, counselling, learning support and PSCHE programmes.

Curriculum

Students start four different A level subjects, and for most subjects, will have eight, 40-minute periods per week in each subject. In February, following internal test results, students are given the opportunity to drop one of their subjects. You can find advice on choosing your A levels, as well as full details of each subject, in our accompanying A level guide which is linked at the bottom of this page.

Co-curricular

Students are encouraged to seize the co-curricular opportunities that are offered to them, whether that be in the creative arts, sport, community projects, numerous and diverse clubs or in music and drama productions. You will also have the chance to arrange social and fundraising events for the sixth form, help younger pupils, organise conferences on topics of your choosing or be involved in voluntary activities and events in the wider community.

City+

In the sixth form, students develop their links with City of London School through the City+ enrichment programme. Each week, staff from both schools deliver seminar-style sessions for a diverse selection of four-week long courses. Last year’s offering included courses on climate change, science ethics, public speaking, astronomy, and archaeology.

Careers and higher education

At City, we are committed to helping you to make the right decisions for your future studies and whatever your next step may be. City students apply to a wide variety of institutions, including art foundation courses in the UK and universities abroad including in the US, Canada and Europe. Our students have the full support of the school in these endeavours and are actively encouraged to use their imagination when looking for their next steps.
