Suitably for City's theme of pioneering women, Reverend Rumens was one of the first women to be ordained as a Church of England priest, moving from her past life as an art teacher and fashion designer (she spent half a term at theological college painting in the Sinai desert!) to take the cloth in the Spring of 1994. Her final sermon took inspiration from the epitaph hidden away in St Giles, and left the congregation with the advice to "Only be steadfast in all you do, stand firm in what God has decided, that is and must be the best. That is all."
