In response to the assembly and this theme, all students and staff were asked to contribute to a collaborative space and share moments of light that have helped them through these trying times. Common themes include baking, time with family, and the breakout success of 2020: the daily walk, alongside more individual gratitude for a particularly adorable cat, Bernie Sanders memes, and City’s own 2800 squat challenge. Maths challenge
On Wednesday 3 February, all pupils in years 9 and 10 sat down to tackle the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge, an annual country-wide competition that demands mathematical reasoning to answer interesting multiple choice conundrums.

Voces8 choir workshop
On Wednesday 3 February, choir students from CLSG & CLS participated in a workshop run by Voces8, a British acapella octet with quite a following (over 175k on Facebook).

Carol Ann Duffy and ‘The Music of Being Human’
It was great to see an audience of over 360 parents, students, staff, and alumnae from around the world tune in to listen to Carol Ann Duffy speak about ‘The Music of Being Human’ on 1 February, for the first annual Andrew Douglas memorial lecture.

Year 12 mathematicians had a great trip to the maths in action conference last week. Topics covered included Fermat's last theorem and transforming mobius strips, how MRI scanners function & how numbers determine which musical notes sound good together.
