Barbican microclimates

Students exploring microclimates across the Barbican area

Our year 7 and 8 students have been getting heatwave-ready in their geography lessons! As part of a microclimate investigation around the Barbican, they tested the impact of different surfaces on local temperatures. Equipped with anemometers, pollution meters, decibel meters and even bubbles, they explored how materials such as brick, concrete and water bodies influence the environment. In the end, they found that the concrete areas recorded the highest temperatures, while spots near water were noticeably cooler - useful insights as we head into the incoming heatwave!
