A climate conference with Schroders

Ruby (year 13) and panelists at this year's Schroders Conference

We hosted our third annual sustainability conference with Schroders on ‘Climate Innovation in the Food Supply Chain’. As the student speaker, I introduced the conference and examined the complexities behind our food choices. We then heard from three innovators from different parts of the food chain: Hoxton Farms, and their development of cultivated fat products, Square Mile Farms, who aim to connect office workers to food production through their hydroponic farms in offices, and The Felix Project, who redistribute surplus food in London. Jenny Chapman, a parliamentary adviser, gave an overview at the end and provided a technical explanation of the biology of the food chain. A lively Q&A session followed, with a standout anecdote from a student, who explained how the revenue of his family’s pizza business halved following the addition of information about carbon emissions for each pizza onto the menu. We all left with a newfound appreciation for how our future food could help save the planet. Head to our Instagram post to see what students from our Family of Schools learned from our panel!
