The Legacy of Dr Phyllis Kerridge

The Kerridge Lecture series is named in memory of Phyllis Margaret Tookey Kerridge (1901–1940), City alumna and an eminent scientist who broke significant ground in the field of physiology and clinical chemistry.

Dr Kerridge was a pioneer in the application of physical chemistry to biological problems. Her most celebrated achievement was her contribution to the development and measurement of pH in tissues and blood using the glass electrode - an innovation that remains a cornerstone of medical diagnostics and laboratory science today. Additionally, her work led to the development of artificial respirators used to provide vital life support, and her pioneering research into hearing shaped the discipline of audiometry and provided the technology present in hearing aids across the world today.

This series continues her commitment to discovery by connecting our school community with the scientists defining the future of biology.

For more information about the series, please contact Mr Rob McMillan, Teacher of Biology, via mcmillanr@clsg.org.uk.
