On Friday 12 June we celebrated our 132nd birthday in style. We were delighted to welcome Natasha Ward, a direct descendant of our founder William Ward, who joined us for the occasion. The celebrations took place in our beautiful pop-up garden created as part of City’s collaboration with theLady Garden Foundation, a charity raising awareness of gynaecological cancers, before (of course) finishing with plenty of cake.
The day felt particularly meaningful, coinciding with our year 8 HPV vaccinations and reflecting the school’s long-standing commitment to girls’ education and wellbeing. With Giving Week in full swing, it was a fitting reminder of our philanthropic roots, and William Ward’s vision to support girls’ education in the Square Mile, making this birthday celebration all the more special.
We were also delighted to welcome a group of our most steadfast alumnae back to school for a special tea. Despite some of them approaching their ninth decades, they travelled into the Barbican to join us for scones and birthday cupcakes in the dining room. One of the guests shared a photo of a stunning City Girl rose blooming in her garden. The variety was created by Harkness Roses for the school's centenary, 30 years ago.
