Classics trip

Group photo of students on Classics trip to Greece

A group of year 10-13 students took a trip to Greece. They spent time admiring numerous masterpieces of fifth-century Athenian sculpture at the wonderful Acropolis Museum. They also took a coach tour to Delphi, stopping off for lunch in the picturesque village of Arachova. At the sanctuary of Apollo at Delphi, they visited the running stadium right at the top of the site, before viewing the super bronze votive statue of the charioteer. On the final day, they visited the National Archaeological Museum and saw the gold death mask of Agamemnon as well as wonderful wall paintings from ancient Santorini. They then ended their travels with a visit to the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion and saw where Lord Byron had inscribed his name on a column!
