Equity, diversity and inclusion

We are committed to developing a culture at the school which promotes and sustains the experiences and identities of all who belong in our community.

Our values of respect, responsibility, and resourcefulness empower us to build an inclusive community where everyone is encouraged to contribute, recognised for their accomplishments, and supported in reaching their full potential.

In line with our strategic aim of readying our students in themselves, inclusivity is at the core of our school community, and we strive to provide student-led opportunities to voice an individual and collective sense of identity. This instils confidence, cultural sensitivity and appreciation as cornerstones of our school.

Belonging societies

There are an array of societies with which our students can engage as part of celebrating their own identities or by building a strong community of students of similar identities: ACS (Afro-Caribbean Society), Asian Society, Explore (Christian Club), JSoc (Jewish Society), ISoc (Islamic Society), NeurodiverCity (Neurodiversity Club), and PrideSoc.

As part of amplifying student voice, we actively seek feedback from hard-to-hear voices and audit the student experience at City. We use this feedback to inform staff and student awareness and training initiatives.

Inclusion calendar

Throughout the year we mark a range of celebration days, weeks and months.  These include  Black History Month, World Religion Week, International Women’s Day, Pride Month and Neurodiversity Celebration Week. Marking such events allows students to celebrate and learn about a range of communities, including in form times, society events, and whole-school assemblies.

The eagerly anticipated highlight of the equality, diversity and inclusion calendar is culture week, led by our senior committee: a dedicated week to celebrate our distinctive and myriad culture. Culture week includes a dance and talent showcase and culinary feasts.
