Year 9 battlefields trip

Group photo of students on battlefields trip

Year 9 went on a trip to France and Belgium as part of our study of the First World War. On our second day, we visited the Neuve Chapelle Indian Memorial, where we saw Flo’s great great grandfather’s grave near Neuve Chapelle and my great great uncle’s grave. As the first member of my family to have visited the site, this was a wonderful opportunity for me to learn more about my history, as the guides had information on both my and Flo's relatives. We then visited the Hawthorn Ridge crater, before watching a demonstration of kit and equipment Allied soldiers used in WWI. Lastly, we visited the Thiepval Memorial to the missing, dedicated to over 72,000 missing British and South African soldiers who died in the Battle of the Somme.
