Year 7 geography challenge

Year 7s working in groups during the geography maps challenge

Last week all year 7 students completed a challenge organised by the British Cartographic Society. They used the skills gained through map lessons and also applied the knowledge gained from their tectonic lessons to review the Japanese earthquake and tsunami of 2011. Having plotted the nuclear fallout zone and the area of land underwater, each member of the group was allocated an emergency service and they then had to decide where to locate their headquarters for the rescue operation. After this, each group gave a presentation to explain their choices and a winner was selected. We wish them luck, as their maps will go forward to the national finals!
