Year 7 coaching course

Year 7s working in groups during the coaching course

Our year 7s spent the morning off-timetable learning about what coaching is and exploring key elements of social and emotional intelligence. Coaching is one of the range of 1:1 talking supports that CLSG offers students. It is forward-looking, non-judgemental and the coach's role is to support students to explore their options and journey towards their end goal, whatever that is. This morning aimed to show the importance of careful listening, asking effective questions, understanding why empathy is so important and exploring what good friendship looks like. The staff members leading this coaching course were very impressed at how articulately members of year 7 could express these ideas, as well as how they threw themselves wholeheartedly into the many group activities.
