On Monday, year 13 politics students attended the US Politics Today conference hosted by the Eccles Centre for American Studies. It allowed us to expand our knowledge of US politics beyond the curriculum through a series of lectures given by academics. The topics ranged from the diversity and questionably political nature of the Supreme Court to how effectively interest groups exert their influence on party politics. We also had the opportunity to engage in bipartisan discussion with former Members of Congress: Loretta Sanchez (Democrat) and Greg Walden (Republican). Overall, this enlightening visit widened our perspectives on poignant polemic matters in current US politics. This will not only be extremely beneficial when we sit our A level exams later this year, but also when we hear the 2024 presidential election outcome!
