Trip to Guatemala

Guatamala trip

Over half term a group of sixth formers embarked on a life-changing trip to Guatemala, volunteering at a primary school by teaching English and maths with the organisation 'Niños de Guatemala'. This organisation has built three schools in Guatemala to improve access to education, yet their impact goes beyond the classroom; they attempting to break cycles of poverty and abuse through providing support through courses and programmes, especially amongst families with fewer resources. Beyond the volunteer work, we were able to improve our Spanish language skills by staying with welcoming host families and with one-to-one Spanish lessons. We also immersed ourselves in the culture of Guatemala, by visiting Lake Atitlan and exploring three beautiful indigenous towns.
