She recalls, "the competition itself consisted of two tasks, one individual and one teamwork, and the 150 participants from around the world were divided into categories for judging. My team (consisting of me, a girl from Italy, a girl from the Czech Republic and a boy from Mexico) won the award for best international team out of 40 teams across all three language-level categories. The prize is an iPad each. Since the competition, I have been in contact with the other participants from not only my competition team but other categories as well, and we text each other now and again in German."

A star team: not up for debate
Our debating team might be missing debating in real life at the moment, but we have been able to compete internationally instead. Two debates were held against Greenhills High School, Dallas, Texas, the current US national champions, and we were lucky to receive feedback from current and former members of the US national team, including Huệ Anh Cao, who was the top-ranked female speaker in the world in 2019 world schools championships.

House drama gets five stars from Oscar winning director Tom Hooper
The final day of term saw the screening of the four House Drama short films, judged by the Oscar-winning director of Les Miserables and the King's Speech, Tom Hooper. Ordinarily a stage-based production, this year's special circumstances saw director of drama Mr Whyld adapt the competition into a short film contest, with each house given four weeks to devise, film, and edit ten-minute long features on the theme of 'Alone Together'.

Year 12 mathematicians had a great trip to the maths in action conference last week. Topics covered included Fermat's last theorem and transforming mobius strips, how MRI scanners function & how numbers determine which musical notes sound good together.
