Tacitus lecture

CLSG student asking a question at the Tacitus lecture

We attended the 2024 Tacitus Lecture at the Guildhall given by John Browne, Baron Browne of Madingley. He shared his optimism regarding the current state of society, specifically discussing engineering and AI, climate change, and diversity & inclusion. Given the abundance of negative reporting on these three issues, it was refreshing and enlightening to listen to a well-justified positive outlook from such an accomplished person. Fortunately, I was able to ask a question about how governments, companies and citizens can facilitate the green energy transition. His answer was clear: we must all invest in clean technologies at an unprecedented scale. This positive outlook on climate change, as well as all the contention issues, has given us a newfound sense of agency and hope for our future.
