We had the privilege of attending this year’s Tacitus Lecture at the Guildhall, where Dr Fiona Hill CMG, former foreign affairs adviser to three US presidents and now chancellor of Durham University, explored the shifting landscape of global order. Using the Lunar Year of the Fire Horse as a vivid metaphor for disruption and innovation, she examined the major geopolitical forces reshaping the world, including the Russo‑Ukrainian war, and highlighted the opportunities that can emerge from uncertainty. She left us all with a powerful message: embrace the spirit of the Fire Horse and take responsibility for shaping the future.
