Symphonic splendour

BBC symphony orchestra performing

City's music scholars visited the Barbican Centre to watch a rehearsal of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. We listened to a variety of pieces, from Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony to Toru Takemitsu’s Requiem for Strings. It was a really exciting opportunity to watch the rehearsal process of a professional orchestra, as well as a chance to hear the incredible music they had prepared before the concert that evening. The musicians had such a sense of unity despite limited rehearsal time, and it was amazing to see how much expression they could bring to the music so quickly. It was really inspirational to watch these musicians!
