Silent Ceremony at Guildhall

group photo of CLSG students at the Silent Ceremony in Guildhall

On Friday 8 November, we had the privilege of attending the Silent Ceremony, which sees the inauguration of the new Lord Mayor. The ceremony took place at the Guildhall and was conducted almost entirely in silence, except for when the new Lord Mayor read aloud an oath to begin the ceremony. It was fascinating to see all the different traditions performed at the ceremony, from the synchronised exchanging of hats to the carrying of large, golden swords. Everything happens seamlessly, without the need for speech.
