Since we returned to school in March, eight year 10 students have been taking part in a 'Reading Mentors' scheme with Year 4 pupils from one of our partner schools, Galleywall Primary School. Each week, the mentors and mentees connect over Google Meet to read together and discuss Michael Murpurgo's The Butterfly Lion.
It has been a joy to see the connection that the pairs have made over such a short space of time and to hear them take it in turns to read, discuss tricky vocabulary and spellings, to make plot predictions, and to develop a trusting and fun relationship.
Of course the real test is what the year 4 mentees think. One offered this stellar review: "my mentor is super nice and always compliments me about my reading. This makes me feel happy and confident".
