Pioneering in STEAM

Students on Pioneering in STEAM trip

All of year 8 split into three Futures trips for our Pioneering in STEAM work experience day! At Stansted’s Aerozone, students heard from women in engineering, working on the terminal expansion project and then networked, designed their own sustainable waterparks and pitched them to Laing O’Rourke. Students were then given the opportunity to stand on the runway to wave at incoming planes! Meanwhile, another group explored green careers on Hampstead Heath, meeting arborists and sustainability specialists while measuring carbon, creating nature art and even litter picking local wildlife habitats. At the same time, a third group spent an inspiring day at Imperial College London, with the Design Engineering Department, seeing the work of undergraduates and becoming design engineers themselves for the day, solving real world problems to present back to the department. These three work experience visits were full of discovery, offering us all a glimpse into what future careers in STEAM could look like.
