En garde – Olivia’s fencing success

Despite her youth, year 13 pupil Olivia O'Connell (pictured left) has already had a fantastic fencing career, ending last season ranked 12th in the GB Cadets (U17). For those outside the fencing world, the top 15 usually get to compete with the GB squad overseas. In other words: this is a pretty big deal.

Black History Month @CLSG

This week we launched our Black History Month @CLSG celebrations. On Tuesday there was a whole school assembly put together by Mr Martyn and year 12 students, Ishara, Tejal, Jesse, Anoushka, Shaimaa and Noor. The assembly introduced us to three Black individuals who have made significant contributions to British history and society: Olive Morris; John Boyega; and Anne-Marie Imafidon. However, we were also challenged to think about the origins of Black History Month, both in the US and the UK, and to consider the historic neglect of Black histories that means that this month of focus is necessary.

Life After City: the virtual edition

It might have looked a little different to previous years but the Life After City talks are back! The first session took place on Wednesday 30 September, when around 500 students and staff tuned in via Teams to learn about the world of work post-education from one of three speakers with very different professional perspectives.

Duke of Edinburgh awards success

A number of students have received their Duke of Edinburgh certificates of achievement for completing the skill, physicalm and volunteering sections of their awards. Congratulations to Fedra (yr11), Himaaya and Sophia (year 12), and Isabel (year 13), who have earned Silver awards, and Lucy, Kate, Daniela, Ella, Rujula, and Meghan (all year 10), who completed the Bronze programme.

Alumnae news: Flo Chadwick shortlisted for Hive Young Writers’ Award

A poem, Viral, written by a recent leaver, has been shortlisted for the Hive Young Writers Award. Flo Chadwick studied A level English at CLSG leaving in 2019 to study English and history of art at York where she is very keen on creative writing.

Nishka Codes4Good

Nishka, a remarkable year 11 student and winner of the 2020 Dianna Award, was one of five finalists at the Tech4Good Awards this month. Nishka was the only individual nominated for the Education Award, she was up against large organisations, such as the Oak National Academy and the Global Disability Innovation Hub at UCL.

Debating success at SPGS

On Saturday 19 September, five City students in years 8-10 participated in the first virtual St Paul's Girls School Women’s Open debating competition. Year 10 students Meghan and Anaira took part in three debates and despite the technical difficulties that come with debating over Zoom, their team broke first to the final.
