Nishka Codes4Good
Nishka, a remarkable year 11 student and winner of the 2020 Dianna Award, was one of five finalists at the Tech4Good Awards this month. Nishka was the only individual nominated for the Education Award, she was up against large organisations, such as the Oak National Academy and the Global Disability Innovation Hub at UCL.

Debating success at SPGS
On Saturday 19 September, five City students in years 8-10 participated in the first virtual St Paul's Girls School Women’s Open debating competition. Year 10 students Meghan and Anaira took part in three debates and despite the technical difficulties that come with debating over Zoom, their team broke first to the final.

Student charity cycle to France
Congratulations to sisters Ashmi, year 9, and Elina, year 7, who completed an incredible 440km fundraising bike ride from London to Paris this summer. Their cause is the charity Housing for Women, which works across London to empower vulnerable women through providing safe homes and services.

Charity founder holds sixth form talk
Jane Byam Shaw, founder of food distribution charity The Felix Project joined the sixth form on Teams to tell them about the organisation.

House drama short – film workshop
Given the circumstances, this year’s House Drama competition moves away from the stage and on to the screen. Under the guidance of professional filmmaker, Michelle Tofi, houses will make their own short-film inspired by the title Alone/Together. The screening of the films will be on 16 October with awards being given for Best Director, Best Actor, Best Editing, Best Costume and Best Film.

University destinations
We are so pleased, after an uncertain summer, to see so many City students off to university this month. They have secured places at a wonderful range of universities.

Drama department relocates to the Barber Surgeons’ Hall
Whilst the Black Box Studio is being renovated the drama department has been extremely fortunate in being offered space at the Barber Surgeons’ Hall, just a three-minute walk from school.

The school library is open!
Although students can no longer physically browse the shelves, due to coronavirus safety procedures, the library is still open! Now, more than ever, seems an important time to keep practising a bit of bibliotherapy.

Year 12 enters the sixth form
Over the past two weeks, the new group of year 12 students have been settling into Sixth Form life. This year, as part of social distancing measures, they even get to use the old staff room as their common room.
And that’s a wrap! We celebrated an academic year of spectacular achievement in our final assembly this morning; from debating success to athletic prowess, new meaningful partnerships and a glowing ISI report. Countless music concerts, drama productions and art shows, exciting trips and language, science and maths competitions. There is so much to celebrate and we remain so very proud of our community here. Wishing you all a happy and restful summer break.
