Model UN

CLSG students at Alleyn's school for MUN

During the half term break, we attended our first ever three-day International Model United Nations conference at Alleyn's School. At the opening ceremony, we listened to an inspiring speech from Sir Anthony Seldon about what makes a good leader. We were then tasked with representing our assigned countries and debating resolutions based on our countries' policies. We discussed various topics including the sovereignty of Palestine, Taiwan in the Security Council, nuclear disarmament, the use of AI and indigenous rights, refugee access to healthcare and the Cuban missile crisis. On the final day, we took part in a debate at the General Assembly discussing policies on how to combat an alien invasion. Along with the debates, there were many opportunities to make friends with people who had similar interests to us, coming from schools not only in the UK but also from France and Iraq. Gwenny, Chloe, Reya and I were fortunate enough to receive commendations at the awards ceremony, and over the three days, we all gained a better understanding of how the UN works, as well as improving our public speaking and debate skills. We are excited for many more conferences to come!
