Mock COP26 Conference

mock-cop-outside

On Tuesday 9 November, students from CLSG joined together with others from the City family of schools to take part in a mock COP event at CLS. We were set up in groups and represented a total of 10 countries (we even had some protesters and press!). We then had a rigorous debate about the different ways we can combat climate change, and negotiated the practical steps that each power should take. It proved challenging at times as each nation had different priorities and circumstances, and as such, some were less willing to take action on the crisis than others. Delegates also discussed how each habitat, such as oceans and forests, could be protected from the effects of CO2 emissions and global temperature increases. Overall, it was a fun and fascinating evening, granting the  students invaluable insight into the response, responsibilities and expectations that different countries have in the climate crisis.
