Last Thursday, year 9 participated in a Holocaust memorial workshop. We analysed photos showing life under the Third Reich, including examples of the Berlin memorial and book burnings. To put faces to the six million Jewish victims, we read through witness testimonies, hearing about the fullness of their lives during the Holocaust and the devastating impact once it had begun.
We also were so fortunate to then hear from Paula Zeff, a Dutch survivor who was hidden by a Christian family during the war. It is a unique privilege to have witnessed her testimony, and to have been able to ask questions afterwards. I think we all felt it had been a good opportunity to reflect on the prejudice and discrimination still prevalent in society, and our role in creating a better future.
