To commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day, year 9 students attended a workshop focused on helping us understand and reflect on this horrific event. Initially, we discussed the importance of keeping alive the stories of those who experienced the Holocaust, before focusing on the experiences of individuals living through this time. Finally, we ended with our guest speaker, Michelle. She discussed how her father, Zigi Shipper, survived the Holocaust after witnessing the atrocities in various concentration camps, including Auschwitz-Birkenau. He went on to be awarded a British Empire Medal and sadly passed away last year. Hearing all of these stories was truly inspiring, and we are so grateful that we were given a deeper understanding of how awful these events were and the struggles they caused so many people.
