Hamlet at the Young Vic

On 8 November the GCSE and A-level drama students had the pleasure of watching Hamlet at the Young Vic. Though the script was followed faithfully it was undoubtedly a fresh take on a classic. Cush Jumbo was particularly impressive as a woman in a male role and she was supported by an amazing cast directed by Greg Hersov. There was an interesting mix between modernity and traditionalism with Jumbo bringing a certain teenage angst coupled with a curious vulnerability and a sharp intelligence. The small glimmers of humour in an ultimately tragic piece were used to full effect too, creating a thoughtful and balanced play that was a joy to watch!
