French trip to the British Film Institute

CLSG students on a French trip to the BFI

Our A level French students went on a trip to the British Film Institute to participate in a workshop about French New Wave cinema. The informative workshop highlighted key films of the movement; we were taught that scene analysis revealed that The 400 Blows influenced the style and themes of contemporary French films like Entre les Murs. It was also especially useful for us to consider the context behind the films we are studying. In the afternoon, we were lucky enough to watch the highly celebrated film La Haine from Mathieu Kassovitz in the comfort of cinema seats. Aside from this being relevant to the topics we currently study, the film was also extremely powerful in discussing social inequality and the 'banlieue'. We all had fun and learnt a lot!
