Not only is the main space large enough to comfortably conduct a socially distanced drama lesson, but it is full of fascinating history. Undoubtedly the most compelling artefact hanging in the space is Hans Holbein’s 1542 painting of Henry VIII and his newly appointed Barber Surgeons. The fact that the bottom left-hand corner shows visible damage from the great fire of 1666 adds to the interest and the notion that it’s a bit of a Chekhov’s Gun situation - it would be remiss not to include it in our drama lessons!

Year 12 enters the sixth form
Over the past two weeks, the new group of year 12 students have been settling into Sixth Form life. This year, as part of social distancing measures, they even get to use the old staff room as their common room.
Fresh faces around the school
City is delighted to welcome the newest cohort of pupils to the school. Two new year 7s, Matilda and Isabella, gave up a few minutes of their lunch break to fill us in on how it's been, leaving their friends singing karaoke in the corner.
GCSE results 2020
While year 11s did not have the satisfaction of sitting exams in their GCSE subjects, we applaud them for the work, commitment and grace under pressure that they showed in the face of the Covid-19 lockdown. These all find expression in these final outcome grades, which were, as usual, stellar.
