year 9 students from City. I started off with an introduction to British Parliamentary debating, the most common style for UK competitions, and then we played some debating games to break the ice. Then, we broke off into two rooms for the students to partake in a full BP debate, on the topic, ‘This house believes that countries with poor human rights records should be banned from hosting the Olympic Games’. All the students did extremely well and spoke very confidently, and it was also extremely rewarding for me to share my debating experience with younger pupils.
