We were thrilled to be joined by Nicolas Pasternak Slater and his wife Maya Slater for our first City@6 lecture of the term. To mark modern languages week, they discussed Doctor Zhivago: A Pasternak Family Affair.
The couple explained how the writing and publication of the novel affected the English Pasternak family, and answered questions from staff and pupils on the art of translating and remaining faithful to prose. They also discussed the film as another form of translation, and how the Pasternak family felt about this.
It was a fascinating and enlightening discussion, and we highly recommend watching the recording here.
