Black History Month celebrations

Students at Black History Month food festival

Throughout this week, we marked Black History Month with the theme ‘Standing Firm in Pride and Power’. Full of celebration, reflection and community, this week began with lively Afrobeats music at lunchtime. Tuesday’s food festival, organised by the Afro-Caribbean society, celebrated culture through various flavours and raised nearly £100 for the bursary fund. On Wednesday our students watched a screening of Black Panther, and on Thursday they raised the roof at BHM karaoke. Today Ms Brodie, Teacher of History,  delivered a couple of 10-minute talks, with thought-provoking explorations of the Black British civil rights movement and the lives of Black Tudors.
