On the 1st December, the Year 12 French A-Level students visited the British Film Institute for an informative day out. Sitting on plush seats at the back of one of the many state-of-the-art cinema rooms, we were treated to a fascinating and interactive talk from an expert on the French New Wave. We watched and discussed extracts from famous examples of the best of French cinema, ranging from Godard and Truffaut to Sciamma and Varda. After a short lunch break spent enjoying the lights and the food at the Christmas market along the Southbank, we returned for an afternoon viewing of Entre les murs. The film won the Palme d'Or at Cannes and depicts the ups and downs of the life of a literature teacher at an inner-city high school in Paris. Overall, the day was highly informative, enjoyable and definitely not to be missed!
