Battlefields trip

Students on Battlefields trip

On two rainy days last week we embarked on a moving trip to Belgium and France, exploring cemeteries and memorials dedicated to both German and Allied soldiers of the Great War. We stood on the Somme battlefields, and had the honour of hearing the stories of our classmates’ relatives, who lost their lives fighting. We also gained insight into soldiers’ lives and the conditions they fought in, brought vividly to life when Mia wore a full World War I uniform. The trip left everyone deeply moved, with a deeper understanding of history and remembrance. In the words of Laurence Binyon: ‘At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.’
