A level Spanish trip to BFI

Year 12 CLSG students at BFI

Our year 12 A level Spanish students travelled to the British Film Institute to participate in a workshop on Filming the Legacy of Dictatorship in Spain and Chile. The day began with a screening of The Silence of Others, which depicted the hardships of finally bringing justice to those who were victims of Franco’s military regime and their families under the Spanish Amnesty Law of 1977. In the afternoon, we had a presentation about the military coups of Spain and Chile, and were introduced to films that explored the effects of these dictatorships. We also heard the personal account of a survivor of Franco’s regime and had the opportunity to ask him questions, allowing us to further reflect. Overall, despite dealing with difficult yet necessary themes, the day was extremely informative and we all learnt a lot.
