Our A level French class spent the day at the BFI, deepening our appreciation of French cinema. It was fascinating to see how the creativity and experimentation of the New Wave still influences contemporary filmmaking. We studied extracts from films such as Cléo de 5 à 7, Les 400 Coups, Bande de filles and Entre les murs, analysing how directors use framing, movement and sound to express emotion and social change, before ending the day with a screening of La Haine.
