Walking tour of Smithfield

Students on walking tour of Smithfield

Year 8 history pupils went on a walking tour of Smithfield, Charterhouse, St Bartholomew’s Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Church. We learned about the rich history of the area and how it has evolved over time. I especially enjoyed discovering why the church and hospital were founded. It was also interesting to hear about the executions near Smithfield Market during the reign of  ‘Bloody Mary’. The tour was both engaging and informative, and helped me learn more about the often overlooked history under our feet.
