At City, we offer a range of competitive and recreational sports including netball and cross country in winter and athletics and cricket in the summer, with gymnastics and swimming continuing throughout the year.

Cross-country

Making use of Hampstead Heath, Mile End Stadium, and our very own Barbican highwalks to train, City’s cross-country squad competes at events such as the English Schools Cross Country Cup and London Youth Games, regularly reaching national finals. We also offer a friendly weekly running club, which is open to all.

Netball

Our most attended sports club, we play competitive and friendly netball fixtures against schools across London and the wider region. We also run friendly netball clubs for everyone to get involved in the sport.

Gymnastics

We have a gym squad and several clubs. Our bi-annual gym and dance display gives all pupils the opportunity to showcase the moves and routines they have honed in lessons and clubs. Out of school, our gymnastics team frequently reach national finals of British, English, and Independent Schools Gymnastic Association competitions.

Football

From the USWNT to the Lionesses, there is no doubt women’s football is an increasingly popular sport. At City, students dribble, shoot, and score against each other as well as other schools in competitive and friendly fixtures.

Tennis

Making use of our two full-sized tennis courts on site, we host recreational lunchtime tennis clubs as well as friendly fixtures against other London schools. Our tennis squad compete in the Aegon National Competition and enjoy a trip to see the masters at work at the Wimbledon Championships most years.

Fencing

Fancy working on your swordsmanship? Our in-house fencing coach Graham teaches students in squads and clubs how to wield their sword and win bouts in our fully equipped hall. Our fencers represent the school at competitions including the London Youth Games, London Youth Championships, British Schools Team Championships, as well as in friendly tournaments with other schools.

Swimming

Blessed with our very own pool, swimming is a convenient and popular co-curricular activity. Our swim squad compete all year round at regional and national events, and recreational swimming clubs run at lunch times for pupils in all years to perfect their tumble turns and front crawl.

Cricket

Currently a recreational club, we are developing our cricket programme through friendly fixtures with other schools, with the aim of become more competitive. Our very own, Mr Codd, the director of studies, runs the lunchtime club.

Karate 2

Karate

One of our youngest but perhaps most exciting lunchtime clubs, pupils have the chance to marshal their power for this martial art, testing their progress by gaining different belts. Plans are afoot to introduce our first dojo soon.

Sports Day

Every pupil in years 7-10 takes part in an inter-house rounders tournament and athletics meet, during this all-round track and field event hosted annually at City of London’s spacious sports ground, Grove Park.  All pupils score points for their house by taking part.
