Charities

Students are encouraged and supported in their fundraising around a variety of charitable causes, including the medical support organisation Mercy Ships, and educational charities - Niños de Guatemala and Street Child. The sixth form Mission Committee develop a shortlist of charities to raise money for, and coordinate our programme of fundraising events, ranging from our annual sponsored walk and summer fete to one-off innovations like City’s Got Talent.

We have a long-standing relationship with Street Child, a charity which focuses on the 125 million school-age children across the world who are currently out of education. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our pupils, we have raised £189,318 for the charity since 2011.

Care4Calais

Care4Calais

In February 2020, pupils held a charity food and donations drive in aid of the charity Care4Calais, with form Mission representatives organising and collecting generous donations of items to send to Calais to support asylum seekers.

Stephen Lawrence Trust

In October 2020, as part of our annual Black History Month celebrations, we raised £420.65 for the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust. CEO Sonia Watson wrote “I wanted to write to extend our sincere gratitude to all at City; we are privileged that you have chosen to support our important work in tackling inequality in all its forms.”

Hackney Food Bank

The head girl team spearheaded an initiative to gather food donations for Hackney Food Bank over the Christmas period. Harnessing student competitive spirit with a competition to donate the most food as a form, the whole school managed to collect 424.15kg worth of food, providing 1,010 for people in need.

Bras against breast cancer

The head girl team organised the installation of a bra donation bank in aid of the research charity Against Breast Cancer. Instead of going to landfill, donated bras are repurposed and used to support small businesses in African countries where bras remain too expensive to produce locally, and for every tonne of bras collected, Against Breast Cancer receives £700 to fund their research.
