Curriculum
Year 7-8
In years 7 and 8, pupils participate in four lessons of sporting activities per week, consisting of triple games lessons and an active well-being lesson. Pupils are given the opportunity to choose the sports they wish to participate in, such as dance, hockey, swimming, basketball, badminton, water aerobics, handball, tag rugby, trampolining, and indoor rowing, to name but a few. Our winter term focuses on netball squads, spring on football, and summer on athletics, tennis, and cricket. For those who prefer not to join a squad, alternative options are available, ensuring every pupil has the chance to explore and enjoy a variety of activities. This approach gives our pupils a true taste of the sporting world and the many possibilities it offers.
Year 9-11
By year 11, pupils will have had the opportunity to try activities such as water polo, fencing, artistic swimming, lifesaving, volleyball, badminton, and trampolining. They can also pursue additional options, including spinning, lacrosse, basketball, boxing, handball, fitness, pilates, yoga, and climbing. The weekly triple games lessons provide pupils with the chance to push their boundaries and discover new passions. Our unique location allows us to use the city as an extension of our sports grounds, further enriching their sporting experience.
Sixth form
Physical education, clubs, and squads continue to thrive in the Sixth Form. Students have access to all the school’s facilities and participate in PE through regular active wellbeing lessons and the extensive City+ programme. Sports clubs and squads remain available, enabling students to uphold their commitment to representing the school in competitive settings. For those looking for more relaxed and enjoyable options, a wide variety of recreational clubs is open to everyone, ensuring that all students can stay active and engaged in ways that suit their interests.
‘Super-enthusiastic teachers’ and a genuine sport-for-all ethos means girls choose from an impressive range of sports, from netball to water polo, hockey to trampolining, even spinning and boxing.
