Stephanie was a pupil at City of London School for Girls from 1959-1966. After her first degree, she moved to Cambridge where she completed a PhD studying aspects of octopus reproduction, then focussed on mammalian reproduction and especially on adverse effects of maternal diabetes during early embryonic development.

Stephanie became a college lecturer in physiology and a tutor and later,  admissions tutor at New Hall (now Murray Edwards College) before moving to Lucy Cavendish College, where she was director of studies for pre-clinical medics and natural sciences (biological). She taught undergraduates throughout her time in Cambridge and continues to supervise first year vets and medics in physiology. Stephanie has extensive experience with Cambridge admissions interviews.
