Debating
The debating opportunities available at CLSG help the students to gain confidence in their own voice, learn how to communicate and effectively put forward their own opinion and to think critically. These opportunities involve debating training, inter-house debating competitions and national competitions most weekends, in which the school will regularly rank highly amongst other teams and will often reach the finals. The debaters take on motions which will stand them in good stead in later life, such as whether science or art is the most ‘important’, and the merits of gender quotas in the modern world. Debating is a highly transferable skill, and one which many recruiters value greatly.
‘Here, what counts are ideas. And in the heat of adolescence, students can develop what they think and believe is important, often giving them confidence that will last a lifetime.’ Read @clsghead ‘s article in today’s @telegraph via the link in our bio.
