Coaching

Part of helping our students to flourish in all aspects of their life involves greater self-knowledge – an awareness of their core values and character strengths. It also includes having a greater understanding of and empathy for the lives of others. Through their PSHCEE lessons, students look closely at effective listening skills – as much about what isn’t being said as is actually verbalised. They also consider how best to use open questions that allow a conversation to flow. Diversity and inclusion are central to City’s ethos and it is abundantly clear that being listened to attentively and understood is crucial in deepening a sense of belonging and shared identity.

Whilst students consider a programme of coaching and positive psychology lessons across the school, the sixth form student leaders on the senior committee complete the same coaching training programme as is available to staff and parents. These students then offer one to one coaching support on request to students in the same way as they do subject-specific mentoring.
