community service

All girls in Year 12 are required to participate in our Community Service programme for no less than one hour per week. You could join local voluntary groups or be involved with sports coaching, environmental issues, youth leadership, music and dance.

“I volunteer at Camberwell library, where I run a homework club for young children. Every week I spend an hour helping school children with their English, Maths and Science, which has been a very rewarding and humbling experience. I love helping them to improve their work and through this I have developed strong friendships with everyone there. This opportunity has given me invaluable skills, such as patience and the ability to adapt to new challenges and I thoroughly enjoy it." Hero, Sixth Form student

“As part of my Community Service, I visit an elderly woman called Ofelia who lives in sheltered housing for the elderly in my area. Ofelia was formerly a nun in Colombia, and has no family in England, so my visits make a big difference to her day-to-day life. I have found it really rewarding to be able to run some simple errands for her. Visiting Ofelia has also made me realise the value of conversation, and how many of us take regular human contact for granted.”  Lucy, Sixth Form student

"I do my community service at my synagogue where once a week for two hours I lead activities and programmes for children. I have been doing it for the last 2 years and it is a really rewarding and interesting experience.I have particularly loved getting to know the kids and organising programmes, which have to be quite diverse as the kids range from aged 7 - 14. It has been a great opportunity to give back to the community and I have learnt a lot from the experience." Ania, Sixth Form student
