community service

All girls in Year 12 are required to participate in our Community Service programme for no less than one hour per week. You could join local voluntary groups or be involved with sports coaching, environmental issues, youth leadership, music and dance.

“I started volunteering at the Refugee Therapy Centre for my Duke of Edinburgh Award and carried on for two years because I enjoyed it so much. I helped a young girl, who had never been to school before coming to England, with English and Maths for an hour every week. The experience was challenging and at times frustrating, but it was ultimately rewarding. I developed some useful skills and learnt about what it is like working for a charitable organisation.” — Sixth Form student

“The opportunity for community service is nothing but beneficial at City – you get the chance to do selfless work in any area of your choice whether it be gardening or teaching English. Personally I volunteer for a few hours every Sunday at a children’s charity called Shishukinj (Children’s Garden). Here I organise and lead activities in a team for at most around 100 children and it’s so much fun as they are hilarious, engaging and I get the change to connect with my inner child. It has taught me innumerable skills such as time management, learning to be adaptable and approachable as well as giving me the chance to volunteer in India.” — Sixth Form student
